CBD

Plus signs

Cannabidiol, known by the acronym CBD, is an alternative medical treatment used for a variety of conditions. Specifically, CBD has been used to address anxiety, depression, insomnia, joint pain, and multiple sclerosis, among other conditions. Dating back to the 19th century, CBD products have been widely employed as analgesics by Western medical practitioners.

What Is CBD?

Cannabidiol is a chemical in the cannabis sativa plant, also known as marijuana. While delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the major active ingredient in marijuana, cannabidiol oil makes up 40 percent of cannabis extracts. However, the difference is that THC has an intoxicating effect, while CBD does not. Therefore, CBD is more often used as a medical treatment than THC.

In a recent study, 80 percent of CBD users said that they found CBD oil to be “very or extremely effective” as a medical alternative. Moreover, only 3 percent of people who tried CBD found it to be either ineffectual or only slightly effective.

According to the US Food and Drug Administration, products containing CBD oil or cannabidiol, such as CBD gummies, should not be classified as drugs for medical conditions without proper clinical trials. As a result, CBD oil and tonics containing cannabidiol are currently labeled as dietary supplements.
