Understanding Teen Intensive Outpatient Programs
Learn everything about Teen Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) – what they are, how they work, and how they can help teens with mental health needs.
Clearfork Academy mental health professionals are skilled and ready to offer a variety of treatment options to help your teen overcome mental health issues, eating disorders, and substance use disorders.
At Clearfork Academy, we focus on the needs of teenagers who are struggling with mental health conditions, eating disorders, substance abuse, and addiction. Addiction is a powerful and dangerous force that can affect your health, work, and relationships. While it develops gradually, it is very difficult to quit once you have an active addiction. Clearfork’s programs place Christ at the center of the treatment to act as a love and power larger than yourself to guide you through recovery.
Addiction is not just a problem of body and behavior. It is likely that you started taking substances for deeper reasons, such as untreated mental health conditions including depression or post-traumatic stress disorder. At Clearfork, our mental health professionals aim to heal your mind, body, and soul with our evidence-based mental health resources and therapy services. We focus on your emotional health as well as your physical so that you have the best chances at long-term recovery. We even offer online therapy as part of the therapeutic process.
Because we loved you so much, we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well.
1 Thessalonians 2:8
A strong support network is important for lasting recovery, so we encourage families to participate in the treatment process.
Group therapy gives you the opportunity to learn from and get support from your peers so that you feel connected in your recovery.
It is important to understand the underlying causes of your addiction and find alternative ways to cope with them. Individual talk therapy allows this depth.
Dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based talk therapy for children, teenagers, and adults that helps manage intense emotions that lead to problematic behaviors. The word “dialectical” comes from the idea that bringing together two opposites in therapy–acceptance and change–will achieve a better result than using one alone. DBT primarily focuses on utilizing radical acceptance of one’s experience to be able to change negative behaviors. The major goal of DBT is first to stop a dysfunctional behavior and then proceed to address and manage the negative thought patterns that lead to that behavior. In treatment, teens will be helped to offset intense emotions through learning a range of useful mindfulness practices and practical problem-solving skills.

Your therapist will listen to you without judging, ensuring that you feel safe and comfortable. Once you have built trust, you will work on reasons for your substance use and learn new coping skills in your talk therapy sessions. Your therapist may also advise on treatment for a mental illness.
Each person’s recovery journey is different so one type of therapy may suit you better than another. At Clearfork, mental health professionals will help you tailor your program to your needs. You can try different types of therapies and adjust the program as needed.
Evidence-based therapies are seen as a core principle of addiction treatment. It is important to continue with therapy once you have completed a residential treatment program. This helps you learn and maintain new healthy habits and remain accountable in your recovery.
Individual and group therapy have different strengths. With individual therapy, you can get to the root of your problems as you are the focus of the sessions. With group therapy, you can benefit from the support and experience of people who are experiencing similar things.
Therapy programs work by delving into your addiction, factors that caused you to develop an addiction, and triggers that cause you to relapse. By working on these deeper aspects of your addiction they allow you to replace your substance use with healthy habits and remain sober long-term.
At Clearfork, our seven core values lay the foundations for our program, permeating everything we do.
Doing the right thing
Winning by working together
Going the extra mile
