Is Teen IOP the Right Level of Care for Your Child?

Teen intensive outpatient program (IOP) is the right fit when weekly therapy is not enough but round-the-clock supervision is not necessary. In IOP, a teen lives at home, attends school, and receives several hours of clinical support each week, typically across three to five sessions. That structure works when symptoms are manageable during the day but need more targeted intervention than a single weekly appointment can provide.

IOP is not the right starting point for a teen at immediate risk of self-harm, in active crisis, or needing continuous medical oversight. In those cases, residential or inpatient treatment is safer, and most programs begin with a clinical assessment that weighs symptom severity, safety, substance use, and school functioning before confirming the level of care.

The four centers below serve Grapevine families with different schedules, clinical models and step-up options. Compare drive time, schedule and access to higher levels of care before you decide.

Teen IOP Treatment Centers in & Around Grapevine

Clearfork Academy

Clearfork Academy runs teen IOP from two locations: 3880 Hulen Street, Suite 410, in Fort Worth, and a campus in Carrollton. For most Grapevine families, Carrollton is the closer campus (about 15 to 20 minutes via 121/635), while Fort Worth is about 25 to 35 minutes via Highway 114. Teens who need care from home can join virtual IOP instead.

The program serves teens ages 13 to 17 and meets three to five days a week. Each week combines group therapy, individual sessions, and family therapy, with academic support built into the schedule. Clinicians use evidence-based approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Trust-Based Relational Intervention, and family therapy, with psychiatric and medication appointments as needed.

Clearfork treats mental health and substance use together, covering concerns like depression, anxiety, trauma, self-harm, and use of alcohol, marijuana, or nicotine. Its team also coordinates with Grapevine-Colleyville ISD to help teens stay on track with schoolwork.

Bricolage Behavioral Health

Bricolage Behavioral Health operates out of Flower Mound at 3204 Long Prairie Road, Suite A, a short drive from Grapevine. Its teen IOP meets three mornings a week, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, and the program averages about six weeks, though duration shifts based on clinical need.

The clinical model leans on CBT, DBT, Seeking Safety, exposure therapy, and interactive group work, with family involvement built into treatment. Each week also includes a health check-in and a medication check-in, and teens who start in PHP typically step down into IOP for about 12 weeks of treatment overall.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Will my insurance cover teen IOP in Texas?

Coverage depends on the specific plan and provider. Treatment centers like Clearfork Academy and Bricolage accept many major commercial insurance plans. A benefits check with the program directly confirms your actual out-of-pocket cost.

Can a teen switch from IOP to inpatient care if needed?

Yes. IOP is one level within a larger continuum of care, and clinicians regularly step a teen up to residential or inpatient treatment if symptoms worsen or safety risk increases. A program offering multiple levels of care under one roof, rather than just outpatient services, can make that transition faster and smoother.

How many sessions per week does teen IOP involve?

Most teen IOP programs near Grapevine meet three to five days a week. Sessions typically last a few hours each, and the exact schedule depends on the program and your teen’s treatment plan.

Are there any residential treatment centers for mental health in Texas?

Yes. Several providers in the Dallas-Fort Worth region, including Clearfork Academy, offer residential treatment alongside outpatient programs like IOP and PHP. Clearfork Academy operates residential care in Fort Worth and Cleburne, giving families a path to step up or down in care without switching providers entirely.

How do I start the admissions process at Clearfork Academy?

You can start by calling Clearfork Academy at (888) 430-5149 for a free phone assessment. From there, the admissions team verifies your insurance and schedules an admission interview to confirm which level of care fits your teen. Once those steps are complete, your teen can begin treatment.
